Managing for Biodiversity in Young Forests, 1155 DVD. Westside forests in Oregon and Washington are increasingly dominated by dense young stands, as a result of decades of timber harvesting. The Endangered Species Act and the Northwest Forest Plan have focused attention on biodiversity within these stands. The Young Stand Biodiversity Project compared vegetation and fauna in young thinned, young unthinned, and old-growth stands on BLM lands. In this program, researchers who studied birds, moths, lichens, bryophytes, and understory vegetation discuss their findings and possible implications for future management of young forests.
