On January 18th, the Horning Endowment for the Humanities sponsored the "Alpine Environments and the Changing Climate Symposium" on the Oregon State University campus. Four researchers, each with a completely different focus, gathered for a short lecture and public conversation.
Our third speaker for this event was Michael Osborne, a Professor of History & History of Science at Oregon State University. Osborne is also a Research Professor of Environmental Studies and History at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Osborne's talk reviewed the early years of alpine skiing and alpine climate study in France and explored the impact of global climate change on the ski industry. Direct revenues from the ski industry account for nearly $9 Billion US annually. What are the potential impacts and adaption prospects?
