In this interview, Niess provides an overview of her years on faculty in the College of Education and College of Science at Oregon State University. She discusses her research on using computers and robots to improve math education outcomes, and also discusses her use of M&M's candies to help students better understand spreadsheets. Other topics covered include her tenure as chair of the Science and Mathematics Education department; her year as Faculty Senate President; OSU's efforts to build up its computing infrastructure; early conversations on campus about the Internet; and organizational change within the College of Education.
Maggie Niess earned three degrees from Oregon State in General Science/Mathematics Education and served as a faculty member in Science, Mathematics and Computer Science Education from 1980-2018.
