In this interview, Niess discusses her upbringing in Portland and Aloha, Oregon; her undergraduate experience at Oregon State University, where she majored in Mathematics Education; receiving her master's degree from OSU and subsequent teaching jobs; and then returning to OSU to study for a Ph.D. in Math Education with a minor in Computer Science. Niess begins the interview by reading a reflection on her mother's story and its intersection with certain themes in contemporary American life.
Maggie Niess earned three degrees from Oregon State in General Science/Mathematics Education and served as a faculty member in Science, Mathematics and Computer Science Education from 1980-2018.
